Focus

Open the full timer

One long block for one big piece of work: 90 minutes of focus, then a full 20-minute break. Rio stays asleep for the whole stretch, and a soft bell tells you when it is over.

How to use it

  1. Plan the block before you press Start: write down the one outcome you want after 90 minutes, such as a finished first draft or a working feature.

  2. Have water and anything you need on the desk, then start the timer and close the other tabs.

  3. If you hit a wall halfway, keep going in smaller steps instead of switching tasks. The block is for one thing.

  4. When the bell rings, take the whole 20 minutes. Eat something, move, get outside if you can.

When a 90-minute block fits

A 90-minute block suits work that has many parts you need to keep in your head at once: a long report, a complex bug, a design with many screens. Stopping every 25 minutes would mean rebuilding that picture again and again.

It is a lot to ask on a busy or tired day. One or two of these blocks may be plenty, and that is fine. On lighter days, the 50/10 timer is a gentler choice.

A sample deep-work day

Two 90-minute blocks, with the rest of the day for lighter tasks.

  1. Focus. The hardest task of the day, start to finish
  2. Break. Twenty minutes away: walk, snack
  3. Focus. Second block on the same project
  4. Long break. Lunch, then messages and small tasks

Questions

What is the 90/20 rule?

It is a simple plan: work for about 90 minutes, then rest for about 20. The timer on this page is set to exactly that.

Can I pause in the middle?

Yes. Pause keeps your place, and the bell still rings at the right time when you resume.

Will the bell wake me if I step away?

The bell is soft on purpose. Turn up the alarm volume in the app’s settings if you want to hear it from another room.
